Turnera diffusa, known as damiana, is a plant native to southwest Texas in the United States, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean. The plant belongs to the passion flower family. It is known that the Aztecs used damiana against impotence and the Mayas took it as a stimulant. 

The plant has small aromatic flowers with a scent reminiscent of figs. It has a mild relaxing effect and acts as a sexual stimulant because it contains substances that stimulate the nerves of the genitals. When used for a longer period of time, it increases potency. Damiana promotes the hormone balance in women.

Damiana can be smoked or drunk as tea. In combination with Muira Puama, the erotic effect is further enhanced.

Use and dosage

Take 1 capsule per day with a glass of water. For tea, add 10 to 15 grams of damiana herb to a liter of water and let it cook gently (5 min). After it has cooled you can sift it and take a few cups. You can also dissolve the powder in juice, water or mix in the yogurt.

Another way to take it and keep it is to make a drink out of it yourself. Then proceed as follows. Soak around 30 grams of the herb for a few days in half a liter of spirits such as vodka. Sieve it and set the alcohol extract aside. You can now soak the remaining leaves in 150 ml (spring) water for a few days. Drain this too and filter it. For the final taste it is nice to bring the water to the boiling point and add honey.

Now put both extracts in a bottle and let it stand for about one month. The liquid settles and thus slowly becomes clearer. Now very slowly pour the liquid out into a clean bottle. Take 1 or 2 glasses for the desired effect!
